Roles / Duties

• Operate excavators to dig, move, and load soil, rocks, and other materials
• Perform excavation work for construction projects such as roads, buildings, and drainage systems
• Ensure safe handling of the machine to avoid accidents or damage
• Conduct pre-operation checks (fuel, oil, hydraulics, brakes)
• Follow site plans, instructions, and signals from supervisors
• Carry out basic maintenance and report mechanical issues
• Maintain cleanliness and proper use of the equipment
• Adhere to safety regulations and use protective gear at all times

Qualifications

• KCSE certificate (minimum) or equivalent
• Valid operator’s license or certification for heavy machinery
• Proven experience operating excavators (construction or mining sites preferred)
• Basic knowledge of machine mechanics and safety procedures
• Ability to read and interpret site plans or instructions
• Good coordination, concentration, and attention to detail
• Physically fit and able to work in different weather conditions
• Strong teamwork and communication skills

Key Responsibilities

• Maintenance Leadership & Asset Reliability: Oversee preventive and predictive maintenance programs, root cause analysis, and reliability improvements.
• EHS Strategy & Compliance: Implement ISO 45001/14001 systems, ensure legal compliance, conduct risk assessments, and lead incident investigations.
• Chemical Manufacturing Safety: Manage hazardous chemicals, process safety (PSM), and emergency response plans specific to chemical operations.
• People Leadership: Develop maintenance and EHS training schedules, foster safety culture, and coordinate with cross-functional stakeholders.
• Continuous Improvement: Utilize CMMS, drive OEE improvements, and lead cost-saving initiatives without compromising safety.

• To plan, organize and direct all repair and maintenance operations with emphasis on preventive maintenance
• To implement repair and maintenance strategies and action plans to ensure timely production support
• To ensure attainment of business objectives and repair and maintenance scheduling to ensure optimal plant operations
• To optimize human resource utilization within the department
• To establish individual and group accountabilities throughout the department for assigned tasks
• To keep up to date with and implement new repair and maintenance concepts and procedures
• To optimize occupational safety and health with the department
• To identify and highlight to management departmental training needs, staff motivation and discipline
• Cost cutting measures
• Project management

Requirements

Qualifications

• Relevant university degree
• At least 5 years proven practical experience in a similar position in a manufacturing organization
• Proven skills in the use of computers as a working and reporting tool
• Certification for relevant seminars/workshops attended is an added advantage
• An effective team leader with stakeholder engagement skills
• Demonstrated proactive approach to problem solving with strong decision-making capabilities
• Excellent understanding of the full repair and maintenance and project management mix
• High level of integrity
• Strong communication skills.
