The General Accountant will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, preparing financial reports, and ensuring compliance with accounting standards and organizational policies. The role supports day-to-day accounting operations, budgeting, audits, and financial analysis to aid management decision-making.

Key Responsibilities

Maintain and update books of accounts, including journals, ledgers, and reconciliations

Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements

Process accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions

Perform bank reconciliations and monitor cash flows

Prepare and submit statutory returns (VAT, PAYE, Withholding Tax, NHIF, NSSF, etc.)

Assist in budget preparation, monitoring, and variance analysis

Support internal and external audits by preparing schedules and responding to queries

Ensure compliance with accounting standards, tax laws, and internal controls

Manage fixed assets registers and depreciation schedules

Maintain proper filing and documentation of financial records

Support procurement and payroll accounting processes

Provide financial reports and analysis as required by management

Qualifications and Experience

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field

CPA (K), ACCA, or equivalent professional qualification (completed or ongoing)

Minimum of 3 years experience in a similar accounting role

Strong knowledge of accounting principles and Kenyan tax regulations

Experience with accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage, SAP, or similar)

Skills and Competencies

Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other MS Office applications

• Assist in the development and implementation of digital solutions as part of the One Jubilee and RPA projects.

Methodology of the investment case process

The consultant will elaborate on a detailed methodology as part of their inception report. The methodology will involve conducting desk review of relevant documents on newborn service delivery including policies, strategies, guidelines and standards to understand the high impact interventions to be costed and the inputs necessary.

Methodology to cost high impact interventions shall be determined, and modelling approach to estimate the estimated number of lives saved at optimal and suboptimal service delivery coverage states.

The consultant shall also estimate potential cost benefit ratios which will outline the economic benefits vs the investment costs and used to predict the returns that would accrue from each dollar invested.

The consultant will also assess the financing and resource gaps to identify the possible sources of funding to implement the optimal scale up of newborn care. In addition, a phased implementation approach may be used to guide the implementation of the investment case.
