Job Description

Requirements for Appointment:

To be eligible for this position, a candidate must:                                                                                                     (i) Accumulate seven (7) years of relevant experience from the date of admission as an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya;

(ii) Serve for at least two (2) years at the Senior Prosecution Counsel DPP 7 level;

(iii) Hold a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree from a recognized university;

(iv) Possess a Postgraduate Diploma in Legal Studies from the Council of Legal Education;

(v) Be admitted as an advocate of the High Court of Kenya;

(vi) Demonstrate merit and ability as evidenced in work performance and results; and

(vii) Fulfill the requirements of Chapter Six (6) of the Constitution of Kenya 2010, including integrity, leadership, honesty, accountability, and discipline in the service to people.

NOTE: Holding a senior management course lasting no less than four (4) weeks from a recognized institution will be an added advantage.

Duties and Responsibilities: An officer at this level may be assigned to any department at the Headquarters or a County Office. Specific duties and responsibilities include:

  1. Undertaking, taking over, or discontinuing prosecutions on assigned cases;
  2. Implementing prosecutorial policies and guidelines to ensure quality service delivery;
  3. Implementing individual work plans to direct activities towards the achievement of the strategic plan;
  4. Complying with the principles of National values and principles of Good Governance, Human Rights, and transparency to gain the trust of stakeholders;
  5. Preparing court documents and arguing applications and petitions;
  6. Lodging and prosecuting appeals;
  7. Maintaining a record of data and preparing reports on all matters attended to;
  8. Preparing briefs on different legal cases assigned in a manner that meets legal quality standards;
  9. Preparing legal instruments and opinions in line with the mandate of the Office and the ODPP strategic plan;
  10. Analyzing investigation files for sufficiency of evidence and advising on whether to charge or not; and
  11. Undertaking research on assigned legal issues and compiling reports on findings to ensure that quality standards are upheld in the delivery of prosecution services.

Terms of Service: permanent and pensionable
