Job Description

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide clinically appropriate assessment, interpretation, and reporting of diagnostic imaging studies in accordance with established clinical guidelines and best practices.

Interpret and report a wide range of imaging modalities, including:

  • Digital X-rays
  • Computed Tomography (CT)
  • Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)
  • Ultrasound
  • Mammography
  • Fluoroscopy
  • Other specialized imaging examinations as assigned.
  • Ensure timely reporting of radiographs, mammograms, CT scans, MRI studies, and ultrasound examinations to facilitate efficient patient management and workflow.
  • Perform fluoroscopy and specialized ultrasound examinations where applicable.
  • Interpret and report emergency imaging examinations within the required turnaround time.
  • Provide consultation services to referring clinicians during working hours and scheduled on-call periods.
  • Collaborate with physicians and multidisciplinary teams in patient diagnosis and treatment planning.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary team (MDT) discussions and clinical case reviews.
  • Attend and actively participate in departmental meetings, clinical meetings, and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Participate in Continuous Medical Education (CME) activities and other capacity-building programs.
  • Work collaboratively with the Head of Department and other team members to develop work schedules and manage reporting workloads effectively.
  • Maintain accurate, comprehensive, and high-quality radiology reports within agreed service-level turnaround times.
  • Ensure compliance with ethical, legal, and professional standards governing radiology practice.
  • Maintain strict patient confidentiality and adhere to data protection policies.
  • Utilize PACS, RIS, EMR, and other hospital information systems effectively.
  • Conduct scientific research and contribute to publications where applicable.
  • Participate in peer review and quality assurance programs to enhance diagnostic accuracy and service delivery.
  • Perform any other duties assigned by management within the scope of the role.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) or an equivalent qualification recognized by the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council (KMPDC).
  • Master of Medicine (MMed) in Radiology and Imaging or an equivalent postgraduate qualification recognized by KMPDC.
  • Registered with the KMPDC.
  • Recognition as a Specialist by the KMPDC.
  • Valid KMPDC Practising Licence.
  • Professional Medical Indemnity Insurance Cover.
  • Proficiency in computer applications and Hospital Information Systems.
  • Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) will be an added advantage.

Experience

  • Minimum of 5 years’ post-specialization experience as a practicing Radiologist in a busy hospital or diagnostic imaging centre.
  • Demonstrated experience interpreting CT, MRI, Ultrasound, Mammography, and Digital X-ray examinations.
  • Previous experience in teleradiology or virtual reporting will be an added advantage.
  • Experience using Picture Archiving and Communication Systems (PACS), Radiology Information Systems (RIS), and Electronic Medical Records (EMR).
