The Chatham County Detention Center has an immediate need for a Corrections Counselor I. If you have your Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, Criminal Justice, or a related field, plus one (1) year of counseling experience, consider applying.
Job Summary: In this role, you will counsel inmates and document records according to the Standard Operating Procedures of the Chatham County Detention Center. Your work requires a great degree of confidentiality and includes responding to detainee requests, staff referrals, daily activity logs, and presenting accurate and reliable monthly reports. You will work with the unique problems of an inmate population to provide follow-up services and support, including addiction and recovery issues, multi-cultural awareness, and multi-group theories. You will arrange for detainees to contact Parole, Probation, CFCS, Court Administrator, and other government agencies. You will use your interpersonal skills to interact with difficult clients and may encounter crises such as threats of suicide, homicide, and physical harm. Your customer service skills are vital as you answer inquiries from the public by phone and in person. Other duties may be assigned.
Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, Criminal Justice, or a related field; and one (1) year of counseling experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience necessary to perform the work.
Note: During emergencies and disasters affecting Chatham County, you may be required to report to work as part of a disaster operations team.
