Job Description
ACCOUNTANT – USAID DAWA ZA UBORA PROJECT
Mission for Essential Drugs and Supplies (MEDS) is a faith-based health solutions provider with a core mandate of providing reliable and affordable Health Products and Technologies, Quality Assurance, and Health Systems Strengthening Services.
Project Overview:
- MEDS has a contract with USAID Kenya and East Africa, specifically the USAID Dawa za Ubora project.
- The contract aims to obtain efficient, reliable, and accountable supply chain management services for health commodities related to HIV, Malaria, Tuberculosis, Maternal/Neonatal/Child Health (MNCH), and Global Health Security (GHS) activities.
Position Responsibilities:
- Budgeting:
- Prepare project budgets in compliance with USAID Dawa Za Ubora Contract and USG Guidelines.
- Reporting:
- Develop routine and ad hoc status reports, budget updates for different activities to ensure regular flow of accurate financial information.
- Stock Accounting:
- Maintain an accurate accounting framework for project stocks and up-to-date records.
- Supplier Relations:
- Prepare project suppliers’ payments within the credit period and maintain good supplier relationships.
- Tax Compliance:
- Prepare tax compliance reports and seek tax exemptions for all project expenditures.
- Disbursement Monitoring:
- Monitor disbursement/receipt schedules, alert relevant project staff of due payments/liquidations, and ensure timely financial resource management.
- Cash Flow Management:
- Manage project cash flow to comply with donor guidelines for advance management, reimbursement, and third-party payments.
- Asset Management:
- Maintain an accurate Dawa Za Ubora project assets/inventory register.
- Financial Reporting:
- Prepare project monthly and quarterly financial statements and reports for decision-making by the Project Management team and the donor.
- Audit Coordination:
- Prepare project audit schedules and financial statements, coordinate reviews by compliance and audit teams, and support implementation of recommendations.
- Work Plan and Budget Participation:
- Participate in the development of project work plans and budgets.
Candidate Profile:
- Degree in Finance, Business Administration, or a related field with CPA(K) Certification.
- Professional Qualifications/Membership in professional bodies.
- Associate ICPAK Member, Registered member of ICPAK is an added advantage.
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in a busy accounting environment.
- Prior accounting experience in a USG-funded project is mandatory.
