Job Description
Job description
- Brookfox Technologies is recruiting an MHM and Gender Specialist, who will also serve as the team’s Safeguarding Focal Person, for a mixed-methods survey of adolescent girls’ access to menstrual health and hygiene (MHH) products in 11 Kenyan counties: Nairobi, Homa Bay, Turkana, Garissa, Kitui, Embu, Nyeri, Bungoma, Nakuru, Kilifi and Baringo. The survey is commissioned by an international development partner. It will reach about 2,200 girls aged 10 to 19, in and out of school, as well as schools, households, retailers and government supply chains, and will inform national and county MHM policy.
- The Specialist will lead the menstrual health, gender and social norms content of the survey and act as safeguarding focal person for all work with adolescent girls. The assignment is about 35 working days over six months, starting in November 2026 (expected), subject to contract award.
Responsibilities
- Shape the MHM, gender and social norms modules of the girls’, household and school tools, and the FGD, IDI and KII guides.
- Lead the safeguarding protocol, covering consent and assent, referral pathways, PSEA, and handling of disclosures or distress.
- Train enumerators and qualitative teams on MHM, gender-sensitive interviewing and safeguarding, and supervise selected FGDs and IDIs.
- Analyse gender, norms, disability and inequality findings and integrate them with quantitative results.
- Draft the MHM and gender report chapters, policy brief recommendations and county fact sheets, and present at validation.
Requirements
- Master’s degree in gender studies, sociology, public health, social work or a related field; a PhD is an advantage.
- At least 10 years in gender, adolescent health or MHM programming or research, including work with girls aged 10 to 19.
- Proven experience in safeguarding, PSEA and ethical research with children; current safeguarding training preferred.
- Experience with mixed-methods surveys and qualitative analysis (NVivo, ATLAS.ti or similar) for UN agencies or major donors.
- Knowledge of Kenya’s MHM Policy and its education and health systems.
- Fluent English and Kiswahili.
