Job description

Introduction: Natural Justice is actively seeking a full-time Program Manager to lead and advance the Standing With Communities (SWC) program within the East Africa Hub. The role involves implementing and expanding the program\’s initiatives, collaborating with key stakeholders, and contributing to the development of participatory action research documents.

Key Roles and Responsibilities:

  1. Leadership:
    • Provide effective leadership to the SWC program staff, offering mentorship, coaching, and team-building interventions.
    • Oversee and support program activities and deliverables.
  2. Strategic Planning and Project Development:
    • Collaborate with the Hub Director to develop the overall program strategy.
    • Develop and implement the SWC program of work, ensuring alignment with Natural Justice\’s broader strategy.
    • Formulate an advocacy strategy supporting environmental and climate litigation cases.
  3. Technical Advice & Legal Empowerment:
    • Provide technical and legal advice to partners, affected communities, and stakeholders.
    • Offer training on laws, policies, and processes affecting communities\’ rights.
    • Support strategic litigation through drafting legal documents and overseeing community training.
  4. Policy and Legal Reform:
    • Identify and engage with key policy issues and collaborators.
    • Provide comments on relevant laws and policies.
    • Develop and execute a strategic advocacy policy for the program.
  5. Research and MEAL:
    • Support the research team in developing research, monitoring, evaluation, and learning tools.
    • Write research reports, concept documents, academic papers, and organizational reports.
  6. Partnerships, Networks, and Communication:
    • Identify, build, and maintain networks and partnerships with relevant stakeholders.
    • Contribute to communications strategies through articles, blogs, and reports.
  7. Finance, Administration, and Fundraising:
    • Manage financial, administrative, and procurement processes.
    • Handle individual budgets and assist in identifying funding sources.
    • Assist the Hub Director in grant applications and funder relationship management.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Minimum Bachelor\’s Degree in Law, Environmental Sciences, Human Rights, or related field.
  • Over 5 years of relevant work experience in environmental and/or climate change law.
  • Post-graduate degree in law or relevant social science discipline is desirable.
  • Knowledge of Kenya\’s constitutional and administrative law, human rights, land & environmental law.
  • Computer literacy, excellent English and Kiswahili skills.
  • Experience in program management, research, and team supervision.
