Job Description

PRINCIPAL PUBLIC COMMUMCATION OFFICER

The Principal Public Communication Officer will be responsible to the Senior Assistant Director, Public Communications. The specific duties and responsibilities will include

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Facilitating the development, implementation and review of Public Communication policies, standards, systems, strategies and procedures for the Office;
  2. Monitoring effectiveness of Public Communication policies, guidelines, procedures and standards;
  3. Implementing the divisional annual work plan;
  4. Supervising and appraising staff working under them;
  5. Branding ODPP events to enhance the visibility of the organization;
  6. Implementing ODPP service delivery charter;
  7. Mentoring, coaching, training and development of staff in the division;
  8. Updating content for the website and digital media platforms;
  9. Disseminating Information Education Communication (IEC) materials in line with ODPP media quality standards;
  10. Providing support in Corporate Social Responsibility programs and Community Engagements in line with the ODPP mandate;
  11. Identifying events where ODPP policies, programs, and projects can be propagated and promoted;
  12. Producing documentaries, bulletins, and newsletters to sensitize, inform, and educate stakeholders and the public on the ODPP mandate; and
  13. Identifying and reporting on various public communication issues in ODPP and developing appropriate interventions to inform decisions

REQUIREMENTS FOR APPOINTMENT

For appointment to this grade, a candidate must have: i) Served in the grade of Senior Public Communications Officer or in a comparable and relevant position in the Public Service or Private Sector for a minimum period of two (2) years; ii) A Bachelor’s degree in any of the following disciplines: Mass communication, Communication Studies, Journalism, Public Relations, social sciences or its equivalent qualification from a recognized institution; iii) Post Graduate Diploma in Public Relations/Journalism/Mass Communication from a recognized institution in case of a general degree; iv) Membership to Public Relations Society of Kenya or any other relevant professional body with good standing; and v) Meet the requirements of Chapter Six (6) of the Constitution of Kenya 2010; Integrity, Leadership, Honesty, Accountability, and Discipline in the service to people.

NOTE: Possession of a Senior Management Course lasting not less than four (4) weeks from a recognized institution will be an added advantage.
