PROJECT COORDINATOR

Job Description:

The African Population and Health Research Center (APHRC) is hiring a Project Coordinator to work in its Research and Related Capacity Strengthening Division. The role involves supporting the coordination of a Novo Nordisk Foundation (NNF) funded project focused on improving education on cardiometabolic diseases in Kenya through research capacity strengthening.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  1. Coordinate the development of a comprehensive baseline survey for curriculum review and pre-/in-service curricula development.
  2. Coordinate the creation of a short course on cardiometabolic disease (CMD) for clinical officers and nurses.
  3. Develop guidelines for the selection and recognition of faculty and health facility staff for short course CMD training.
  4. Support the implementation of Master Training-of-Trainer (TOT) sessions on CMDs for Medical Training College (MTC) faculty and clinical mentors.
  5. Coordinate the implementation and tracking of mentorship activities at both faculty and health facility levels.
  6. Manage capacity building of MTCs and faculty for blended and e-learning courses.
  7. Coordinate the initial design of a short-term CMD research fellowship program for MTC faculty.
  8. Oversee two studies: an operational study on HRH/faculty attraction and retention in harsh geographies, and a diagnostic study on CMD prevention, diagnosis, and treatment services in underserved areas.
  9. Contribute to the development of Kenya’s non-communicable diseases (NCDs) research agenda.
  10. Participate in networking, exchange programs, and knowledge sharing for the Partnership for Education of Health Professionals (PEP).
  11. Coordinate project monitoring and evaluation, knowledge management, and communication.
  12. Handle RRCS management and administrative matters in liaison with Division Head and Unit Leaders.

Qualifications, Skills, and Experience:

  • Master’s degree in Health and Social Sciences, Education, Business and Development Studies, or related fields.
  • Minimum three years post-masters experience in an academic or research setting.
  • Experience and interest in research, research capacity strengthening, and instructional/curriculum design.
  • Demonstrated prior experience in project coordination.
  • Hands-on experience organizing events, virtual and physical.
  • Experience in implementing capacity strengthening activities in academic settings.
  • Excellent writing, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Computer literacy in Microsoft packages (MS Word, MS PowerPoint, & MS Excel).

Desirable:

  • Familiarity with KMTC curriculum and research capacity strengthening in health and/or social science.
  • Familiarity with M&E and risk management frameworks.
  • Analytic thinking and ability to work in a culturally diverse team.

Position Classification:

  • Nationally Recruited Position (NRP), Grade V.
