SENIOR INSTRUCTURAL/LEARNING DESIGNER

JOD DESCRIPTION

The primary focus of the Senior Instructional/Learning Designer will be on SME program and content development, providing expertise to the broader learning team and taking the lead in designing various aspects of programs, workshops, and content. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with the Product Manager – SME and play a crucial role within the AMI Learning Team.

In this position, you will be responsible for overseeing learning design and content development initiatives in key strategic projects. This includes continuous development of core programs and short programs to support top-tier learning design for M/SMEs across Africa. As a Learning/Instructional Designer, you will collaborate with various stakeholders, including project partners, AMI Internal Stakeholders, multimedia developers, technology platform teams, and subject matter experts. The goal is to create impactful learning experiences that align with sound learning strategies, achieve desired learning outcomes, and foster targeted competencies and practices. The role requires thriving in a collaborative, fast-paced environment with competing priorities.

Responsibilities:

  1. Strategic Learning Input for SME Product Team:
    • Provide strategic input to the SME Product team to innovate and develop cutting-edge learning products.
    • Adapt methodologies and support product scalability to align with market and technical innovation.
  2. Learning Leadership:
    • Offer strategic direction for AMI’s learning methodology for SMEs, fostering innovative learning practices.
    • Manage the Learning & Content Design Teams in the SME segment, including supporting processes, templates, and Quality Assurance plans.
    • Support recruitment, retention, and growth of the team.
  3. Learning & Content Design:
    • Design scalable learning programs for Entrepreneurship that are impactful and world-class.
    • Manage Learning Experience, innovating on cross-functional learning project teams overseeing blended and virtual learning program design.
    • Support or deliver workshop design for AMI’s blended learning programs.
  4. Needs Analysis and Learning Activities:
    • Conduct needs analysis to understand participant profiles and needs.
    • Define objectives and design learning activities to achieve them, considering session flow, energy balance, and engagement.
  5. Content Development Processes:
    • Oversee Content Development Processes, focusing on building courses, tools, toolkits, and innovative learning content.
    • Scope and estimate the level of effort for project deliverables.
  6. Design and Development:
    • Design and develop learning materials adhering to established design models for various training formats.
    • Consult with instructional/learning designers, project partners, or subject matter experts.
    • Test training materials for quality and adapt based on feedback.
  7. Review and Maintenance:
    • Support the Product Manager – Learning in identifying and planning the review and maintenance of core design collateral for AMI’s learning content and products.

Requirements:

  • Skills & Attributes:
    • Deep knowledge of adult learning theory.
    • Experience in designing instruction for leaders, including multimedia training and experiential workshops.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
    • Understanding of agile methodology and ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Qualifications & Experience:
    • 5+ years of instructional design and development experience.
    • Experience in an entrepreneurial or skills development environment.
    • Masters degree or equivalent experience.
  • Other:
    • Preference for African nationals willing to live in Africa, preferably Nairobi, and travel across the continent.
