Job Description

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain the bank’s data protection policies and compliance framework.

  • Monitor privacy risks, conduct Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs), and ensure compliance with Kenya’s Data Protection Act, 2019.

  • Oversee data subject requests, personal data breaches, incident reporting and corrective actions.

  • Ensure privacy-by-design in digital banking, AI systems, cloud services and other technologies.

  • Review third-party data processing agreements and monitor data security and cross-border transfers.

  • Maintain data records, conduct compliance reviews, train staff and prepare regulatory reports.

  • Liaise with the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner (ODPC) on audits, inspections and regulatory matters.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Law, IT, Data Science, Risk Management, Compliance, Finance or a related field.

  • Professional certification in data protection, privacy, risk, compliance, audit or information security.

  • 5–8 years’ relevant experience, preferably in banking, financial services or another regulated industry.

  • Practical knowledge of Kenya’s Data Protection Act and ODPC regulations.

  • Certifications such as CIPM, CIPP, CDPO, CDPSE, CAMS, CISA or CISM are advantageous.

  • Strong analytical, communication, ethical judgment, confidentiality and stakeholder management skills.
