Job Description

 DEPUTY PROJECT DIRECTOR

Reporting to the Project Director, the Deputy Project Director will play a crucial role in managing technical supply chain activities in line with the organization’s policies and procedures. In the absence of the Chief of Party, the Deputy Project Director will serve as the Acting Project Director. The position will be based in Nairobi, Kenya, with frequent in-country and occasional international travels.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Operational Oversight:
    • Oversee day-to-day supply chain operations to establish a robust foundation for the project.
  • Risk Management:
    • Identify and address risks related to project objectives, considering costs and timelines.
  • Activity Approval:
    • Ensure that planned project activities align with business and resource requirements, obtaining necessary approvals and management support.
  • Work Plans and Budgets:
    • Develop and implement annual work plans and budgets reflecting priorities of USAID, Ministry of Health, and other stakeholders.
  • Financial Management:
    • Support in the preparation of project budgets for resource allocation and approve expenditure for control and accountability.
  • Compliance Enforcement:
    • Enforce compliance of project activities with contract requirements and USG funding regulations.
  • Stakeholder Coordination:
    • Coordinate activities among various stakeholders, including USAID, Ministry of Health, and subcontracted agencies.
  • Reporting:
    • Prepare project reports and submit to relevant stakeholders in a timely manner.
  • Relationship Management:
    • Maintain strong and positive relationships with key stakeholders.
  • Team Management:
    • Manage consultants and technical experts supporting the project.
  • Workforce Development:
    • Support the Project Director in developing a competent workforce through a performance-driven culture.
  • Policy Adherence:
    • Develop and ensure adherence to program and organization policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.

Requirements:

  • Education:
    • A Master’s degree or higher in Business Administration, supply chain, public health, or a related field.
  • Experience:
    • Minimum 7 years of experience in project management.
    • Minimum 7 years of experience working with supply chain projects.
  • Skills:
    • Demonstrated team player with strong financial management skills, including high-level management, budgeting, and reporting.
    • Strong writing and organizational skills for reporting on activity results.
    • Demonstrated capacity to support and supervise staff.
    • Prior experience in managing consultants and technical experts.
    • Strong oral and written communication skills in English.
  • Additional Advantage:
    • Experience in USAID funded projects and knowledge of USG funding compliance requirements.
