Lecturer – Department of Midwifery, Reproductive Health, and Gender Studies

Location: Kajiado, Kenya

Job Description 

Umma University is looking for a qualified and dynamic individual to join its team as a Lecturer in the Department of Midwifery, Reproductive Health, and Gender Studies. The role involves designing, developing, and delivering learning and teaching material within a subject area. The successful candidate will contribute to the efficient and effective delivery of teaching programs, undertake research activities, provide mentorship to students and colleagues, engage in community outreach, and demonstrate a flexible approach to work.

Qualifications:

  • Master’s in Midwifery/Reproductive/Community Health/Public Health in Nursing/Nursing Education/Nursing Leadership.
  • Qualify to register for a Ph.D. in the relevant area of specialization.
  • At least three years of teaching experience at the university level as a Tutorial Fellow or three years of research/industry experience.
  • Registered with the Nursing Council of Kenya.
  • A minimum of three publication points, with at least two in refereed journal papers.
  • Must have supervised at least three undergraduate students to completion as a lecturer.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Student teaching and evaluation.
  2. Research and scholarship, including proposal development, supervision of student projects/research, and presentation at conferences.
  3. Mentorship of students and new colleagues.
  4. Liaison and networking, participating in departmental meetings, conferences, and community activities.
  5. Community outreach, organizing and evaluating community activities with students.
  6. A flexible approach to work, performing any other duties assigned by the supervisor.
