Job Description

Responsibilities:

  • Provide individual and group counselling sessions for children with disabilities.
  • Develop and implement personalized treatment plans tailored to meet the unique needs of each child.
  • Conduct assessments to evaluate emotional, social, and psychological needs.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure holistic care and support for children.
  • Offer guidance and support to families and caregivers.
  • Formulate clients’ cases, maintain their records and ensure high levels of confidentiality on all the cases.
  • Gather suitable information about the target beneficiaries, their welfare, and share it with fellow staff members.
  • Prepare all counselling reports and present them to the immediate supervisor.
  • Prepare topics on different problematic areas and their accompanying psycho-social interventions for staff training.
  • Provide technical guidance on psycho-social interventions to fellow staff members and partners and set benchmarks that meet the Kenya government’s standards.
  • To facilitate the review of the child protection policy and enhance the implementation of best practices
  • Conduct home and field-visits to assess family situations and to develop appropriate responses.
  • Identify potential institutions that can handle referrals on psycho-social cases that are not compatible with the services of Koinonia Community.
  • Perform any other duties assigned by the Supervisor

Required skills

Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team. Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Counselling or related field. Knowledge of developmental disabilities and experience working with children with special needs. Proven experience in providing counselling and psychosocial support to children with disability. Strong communication, interpersonal, and empathy skills.
