Researchers – Human Development

About APHRC:

  • African Population and Health Research Center (APHRC)
  • African-led international research institute
  • Engaged in multidisciplinary, evidence-based policy research across various sectors

Researcher Positions (4):

  • Join the Human Development theme
  • Responsibilities vary based on the level of appointment
    • Provide leadership to scientific research team or project in education and/or youth empowerment
    • Contribute to policy engagement and strategic planning
    • Lead and contribute to proposal development and fundraising
    • Mentor young researchers and facilitate training programs
    • Secure and manage necessary resources
    • Represent the Center at national, regional, and international forums
    • Contribute to institutional publications, including policy/research briefs and fact sheets
    • Oversee data quality and analyses

Qualifications and Experience:

  • PhD in literacy and/or numeracy related studies, mathematics education, teaching and teacher education, economics (with a focus on education), test and measurement, teaching methods, curriculum and instruction, education technology, higher education, youth and community studies, or related discipline
  • Research institution experience, conducting education and/or youth-related research, leading research programs or managing projects
  • Experience with impact evaluations of education interventions or early learning interventions or developing early learning measurement tools (e.g., EGRA/EGMA) is an added advantage
  • Fluency in English; multilingual (English and French) is a plus
  • Excellent scientific writing skills
  • Strong quantitative or qualitative skills; experience with mixed methods (advantageous)
  • Strong proposal writing skills and a track record of winning research grants

Appointment Levels:

  • Postdoctoral (0-2 years after PhD)
  • Associate Research Scientist (3-5 years after PhD)
  • Research Scientist (6-11 years after PhD)
  • Senior Research Scientist (12+ years after PhD)
