Spray Assistant

 Job Description

The Spray Assistant will work closely with the Spray Agronomist to support effective application of pesticides and other agricultural chemicals on the farm. This role requires a strong attention to detail, adherence to safety protocols, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment. The Spray Assistant will assist in the preparation, calibration, and operation of spraying equipment, as well as record-keeping and data management related to spray activities.

 Main Responsibilities

  • Assist the Spray Agronomist in planning and executing spray operations according to the farm’s pest management program.
  • Prepare and calibrate spraying equipment, ensuring accurate application rates and proper functioning of machinery.
  • Operate spraying equipment safely and efficiently, following established protocols and guidelines.
  • Monitor weather conditions and adjust spray schedules accordingly to optimize effectiveness and minimize environmental impact.
  • Maintain accurate records of spray activities, including chemical usage, application rates, and pivot and block locations.
  • Assist in the maintenance and repair of spraying equipment, ensuring proper functioning and safety compliance.
  • Collaborate with the Spray Agronomist and Crop Spray Scouts to identify and report any pest or disease issues observed during spray operations.
  • Follow all safety procedures and guidelines to protect personal health, the environment, and the farm’s assets.
  • Stay updated on industry trends, regulations, and best practices related to farm spraying techniques and general farm maintenance.
  • Support the farm operations and tasks as needed, including crop scouting, pivot and block inspections, and general farm maintenance.
  •  Qualification, Experience, and Knowledge
  • Diploma in Agriculture or Horticulture.
  • Previous experience in farm spraying or related agricultural work is preferred.
  • Knowledge of pesticide application techniques, equipment operation, and safety protocols.
  • Familiarity with different types of crops and their specific pest management requirements.
  • Ability to follow instructions, work independently, and prioritize tasks in a dynamic work environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in record-keeping and data management.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Physical endurance and the ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
