Job Description

Head of Occupational Health Division (AfCDC)

Job Purpose: The Head of Occupational Health Division oversees the management and coordination of Africa CDC’s occupational health activities. This involves policy development, strategy implementation, staff management, and technical support provision. The role includes building partnerships with external organizations to enhance the division’s initiatives.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement policies and strategies for occupational health at Africa CDC.
  • Lead the development and implementation of the Africa CDC’s occupational health strategy and policies.
  • Provide technical guidance to regional collaborating centers and national public health institutes on occupational health.
  • Coordinate and oversee occupational health services and programs for Africa CDC’s staff and partners.
  • Establish partnerships with relevant stakeholders on occupational health matters.
  • Manage the budget, resources, and staff of the Division of Occupational Health.
  • Conduct research and generate evidence-based recommendations on occupational health topics.
  • Monitor and evaluate the impact and effectiveness of occupational health interventions.
  • Represent Africa CDC in regional and global forums on occupational health.
  • Ensure compliance with ethical and legal standards related to occupational health.
  • Manage staff and provide technical support to division activities.
  • Build partnerships with organizations such as WHO and ILO to support the division’s work.
  • Publish articles and reports on the division’s work.

Academic Requirements and Relevant Experience:

  • Master’s degree in Occupational Health or related field.
  • Twelve (12) years of experience in occupational health, with seven (7) years at managerial level and five (5) with supervisory responsibilities.
  • PhD in Occupational Health is a plus.
  • Experience in policy and strategy development, staff management, technical support, and partnership building.
  • Experience in scientific article writing and publishing.

Tenure of Appointment: Fixed-term contract for one (1) year, renewable based on funding availability, satisfactory performance, and agreed deliverables.

Languages: Proficiency in one AU working language is mandatory; fluency in another AU language is an added advantage.

Remuneration: Annual lump-sum salary of US$ 126,440.93 for internationally recruited staff and US$ 108,357.41 for locally recruited staff, inclusive of all allowances.
