Senior Systems & Network Security Officer (AfCDC)

Job Purpose: The Senior Systems and Network Security Officer is tasked with ensuring the security and integrity of the institution’s technology systems and networks. This includes the development and implementation of security policies, procedures, and protocols to safeguard against cyber threats and data breaches. Collaborating closely with the MIS team, the officer monitors network traffic and system logs to detect vulnerabilities and threats. The Senior Officer collaborates with other departments to identify security risks and design mitigating strategies, ensuring the highest level of resilience and security across Africa CDC’s network and systems.

Main Functions:

  • Develop governance frameworks for Africa CDC’s ICT security.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders on ICT security matters and formulate security policies for optimal security and resilience.
  • Design, implement, and manage robust security measures, policies, and procedures to protect digital assets.
  • Mitigate cybersecurity risks for uninterrupted network and system operations, ensuring the highest level of security for critical digital assets.

Academic Requirements and Relevant Experience:

  • Master’s or Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Management Information System, Informatics, or a related field.
  • Training and Certification in cybersecurity, network security, or internet security.
  • Seven (7) years for Masters or ten (10) years for Bachelor Degree holders of relevant experience with three (3) years at the expert level in system and network security management.
  • Strong knowledge of network and systems security, including firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention systems, and encryption technologies.
  • Familiarity with cybersecurity frameworks and best practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead security initiatives and develop security policies.

  • Ability to lead professional exchanges of information with colleagues and vendors.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for effective collaboration with diverse stakeholders.
  • Strong narrative reporting skills.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
  • Resourceful with data collection, analysis, and decision-making.
  • Proficient in using MS Office applications.

Tenure of Appointment: The appointment is on a fixed-term contract for one (1) year, renewable based on funding availability, satisfactory performance, and agreed deliverables.

Languages: Proficiency in one of the AU working languages (Arabic, English, French, Kiswahili, Portuguese, and Spanish) is mandatory, and fluency in another AU language is an added advantage.

Remuneration: The salary for internationally recruited staff is an annual lump-sum of US$ 96,921.34 (P3 Step 5) inclusive of all allowances. For locally recruited staff, it is US$ 78,461.08 inclusive of all allowances.
