ICEA Lion Group Business Development Officer – Life Positions in Kenya

Job Summary

The primary responsibility of the Business Development Officer is to promote and expand the Group Life & Pensions business. This involves providing competitive quotations to clients, generating revenue through diverse distribution channels, processing new business, and ensuring excellent customer service.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Provide competitive quotations to prospects.
  • Prepare and write proposals for submission and tender processing.
  • Process documentation for new business acquisition.
  • Prepare risk registers for various clients.
  • Consult on effective cover for specific needs, considering various factors.
  • Set up meetings, prepare, and deliver presentations to potential clients.
  • Develop and maintain working relationships with intermediaries and existing customers.
  • Ensure credibility with clients by maintaining detailed knowledge of current market conditions and competitors’ products.
  • Deliver excellent customer service by promptly responding to queries and concerns.
  • Provide market feedback and intelligence to management.
  • Send out renewal instructions two months in advance.
  • Regularly update the database of prospective and closed business, submitting a monthly report to managers.
  • Adhere strictly to practices, procedures, and policies outlined in the business development operational manual, including the Code of Ethics.
  • Maintain and update all forms of business contacts.
  • Gather customer service feedback and report on intellectual and operational issues raised by clients.
  • Prepare regular management reports.
  • Manage broker/agent social forums to enhance relationships and reward good performance.
  • Manage exhibition stands and corporate sponsorships.
  • Travel out of town to source, renew, and collect premiums.
  • Generate revenue from new and existing brokers and clients.
  • Provide e-advice for system development initiatives affecting the business development team.
  • Identify broker needs to help develop new business opportunities in collaboration with business development heads.
  • Provide quotations and client services.
  • Train staff (Executive Trainees and Business Development Assistants) and intermediaries.

Occasional Duties

  • Participate in internal Ad Hoc Committees.
  • Contribute to the automation of business functions.

Academic and Professional Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a business or social science-related field from a reputable university.
  • Progress toward professional qualification(s) in insurance, e.g., ACII, FCII, or equivalent, is an added advantage.
  • At least four (4) years post-qualification experience in a Life Assurance and Pensions Business Development function. Previous experience in sales and marketing is required.
