Job Description
Laboratory Manager
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Administration and Oversight
- Manage and oversee all aspects of the Laboratory section.
- Perform testing procedures and ensure compliance with regulatory guidelines.
- Personnel Management
- Assess skills, manage performance, and handle disciplinary matters of laboratory staff.
- Execute and supervise maintenance on laboratory equipment per manufacturer guidelines.
- Daily Operations
- Independently perform tasks such as sample collection, processing, testing, and result reporting.
- Ensure quality control and adherence to safety and policy procedures.
- Team Leadership
- Manage laboratory staff, assign tasks, and implement a performance measurement system.
- Monitor staff activities, evaluate performance, and provide guidance on policies and procedures.
- Budget Management
- Develop and oversee the laboratory budget.
- Make purchases of equipment and supplies as needed.
- Quality Control and Policy Development
- Review and update laboratory policies and procedures.
- Provide guidance on quality control reports and monitoring.
- Training and Development
- Train, coach, and mentor new staff members.
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement for better results.
- Safety and Health
- Prioritize safety and health in all laboratory work.
- Professional Development
- Stay updated on new developments in the field of laboratory science.
- Incorporate relevant developments into laboratory operations.
- Other Duties
- Perform any additional duties as assigned.
GENERAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Minimum of 5 years’ hands-on experience in the Service Management industry.
- Higher National Diploma in Microbiology from a recognized institution.
- Bachelor’s degree in Medical Microbiology, Laboratory Management, or Quality Assurance (added advantage).
- Training in good clinical laboratory practice is a plus.
- Knowledge of Laboratory system audit and data analysis is advantageous.
- Competencies in ISO 17025 and ISO 15189.
