Program Administration Officer

Overview: The African Population and Health Research Center (APHRC) seeks a Program Administration Officer to manage cross-cutting functions within the Research and Related Capacity Strengthening (RRCS) Division.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  1. Coordinate RRCS management and administrative matters in collaboration with Division Head and Unit Leaders.
  2. Organize RRCS events and meetings, including team-building activities and liaising with HR and Units.
  3. Manage RRCS corporate and crosscutting functions, including staff meetings, performance monitoring, knowledge management, and communication.
  4. Handle RRCS corporate reporting, risk management, audit, and compliance.
  5. Prepare RRCS Division reports and presentations in collaboration with the RRCS Head and Unit leaders.
  6. Coordinate internal and external partnerships and synergies, especially during proposal development.
  7. Potential international travel, including short stays in APHRC’s West Africa Regional Office.

Qualifications, Skills, and Experience:

  • Master’s degree in Education, Health and Social Sciences, Business and Development Studies, or related fields.
  • Minimum of three years post-master’s experience in an academic or research setting.
  • Experience and strong interest in research, research capacity strengthening, and instructional/curriculum design.
  • Prior experience in project coordination.
  • Hands-on experience organizing events, virtual and physical.
  • Experience in implementing capacity strengthening activities in academic settings.
  • Excellent writing, organizational administration, and interpersonal skills.
  • Computer literacy in Microsoft packages (MS Word, MS PowerPoint, & MS Excel).

Desired:

  • Familiarity with research capacity strengthening in health and/or social science-related fields.
  • Knowledge of M&E and risk management frameworks.
  • Analytic thinking and ability to work in a culturally diverse team.
  • Ability to speak and write French.
