Sacco Legal Officer (REF: LO/12/23)

Our client, a Deposit Taking Sacco headquartered in Kiambu County, is in search of a qualified and professional Legal Officer with a strong alignment to meet the SACCO’s established goals and objectives.

Job Purpose: Providing concise legal support, advice, and opinions related to the business and support units’ conduct within the institution based on sound legal principles; Reviewing, drafting, and offering legal advice on the adequacy of legal documents concerning third-party contracts for the institution; Providing instructions for various litigation matters affecting the institution and ensuring the best strategy is employed by external service providers in handling litigation; Protecting the overall Tai Sacco interests in light of emerging and prevailing laws and regulations in Kenya and minimizing legal risk to the institution.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities: The incumbent will report to the Chief Executive Officer and be responsible for:

  1. Internal business processes – Contracting and reviewing legal documents for business and support units.
  2. Financial – Ensuring all debt recovery through legal processes is handled in the best interest of the Sacco and its members, and that the recovery process is well-executed and supported.
  3. Internal Legal Administration – Handling all internal legal administrative tasks as may be allocated from time to time.
  4. Litigation Management and Recoveries Support – Issuing prompt and clear instructions to advocates on non-debt and debt recovery cases, providing advocates with relevant documents in support of Tai Sacco cases.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Law (LLB) from an accredited law school
  • At least two years post-admission
  • Member of the Certified Public Secretaries
  • Valid practicing certificate
  • Post Graduate Diploma in law from Kenya School of Law
  • Registered member of the Law Society of Kenya in good standing
  • Knowledge of the SACCO business model & other operational issues
  • Good analytical, communication, and writing skills
  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Attention to detail
