Job Description
The Senior Research, Ethics, and Regulations Officer contribute to devolving ethics review processes within the organization. This involves participating in discussions, identifying areas for improvement, and ensuring adherence to current practices and procedures.
Main Functions:
- Provide technical and intellectual support in managing elements related to the area of expertise.
- Identify best practices and monitor the effectiveness of the Science Office’s support to Africa CDC.
- Assist in developing strategies, business continuity plans, and ensure their implementation.
- Foster and ensure the implementation of initiatives related to the area of specialization.
- Assist in organizing thematic networks, consultations, and meetings on development cooperation and international relations.
- Develop materials and provide training and support to Africa CDC’s Units as required.
- Offer technical guidance on system review and implementation projects in the area of specialization.
Specific Responsibilities:
- Develop standard templates for research proposals, manuscripts, and abstracts.
- Support diverse teams in aligning research protocols, manuscripts, and abstracts with institutional templates and policies.
- Foster the implementation of an internal review mechanism for research proposals, manuscripts, and abstracts.
- Provide technical support and package documents required for the submission of proposed research studies to relevant ethics committees.
- Perform any other relevant functions as assigned by the Supervisor.
Academic Requirements and Relevant Experience:
- Master’s or Bachelor’s Degree in Public Health, Medicine, Epidemiology, Health Science, Health-Services Research, or a related health discipline.
- Seven (7) to ten (10) years of relevant experience for Masters and Bachelor’s Degree, including three (3) years at an expert level in editing academic books, journals, or magazines, with a proven track record of quality and impact.
- Background training in the sciences or work experience in science writing and editing.
- PhD in any of the above or related fields would be an added advantage.

Tenure of Appointment: The appointment is on a fixed-term contract for one (1) year, renewable based on funding availability, satisfactory performance, and agreed deliverables.

Remuneration: The salary for internationally recruited staff is an annual lump-sum of US$ 96,921.34 (P3 Step 5) inclusive of all allowances. For locally recruited staff, it is US$ 78,461.08 inclusive of all allowances.
