Position Description – AD/12/299/23, 1 POST
The Center for Epidemiological Modelling and Analysis (CEMA) at the University of Nairobi is seeking a passionate and skilled Statistician with expertise in data analysis.
About CEMA:
CEMA, established in 2020, is a Center of Excellence dedicated to employing data-driven approaches for infectious disease control and public health enhancement in Kenya and Africa. Supported by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, CEMA has been pivotal in applied epidemiological modeling and analytics, notably in addressing COVID-19, Neglected Tropical Diseases, delivery of essential health services, and training in quantitative skills.
Duty Station: CEMA is located in the University of Nairobi Institute of Tropical and Infectious Diseases, Nairobi, Kenya.
Reporting to: CEMA Co-Directors
Position Responsibilities:
- Determine the correct data to collect for projects in collaboration with Co-Directors.
- Conduct advanced statistical analysis of data.
- Actively scrutinize data for discrepancies, errors, and missing data, ensuring accuracy and validity.
- Assist in training staff members on data analysis.
- Participate in scientific writing and contribute to technical reports.
Job Specifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Statistics or Biostatistics.
- Master’s degree in Applied Statistics, Biostatistics, or Mathematics.
- At least 5 years’ experience in high-level quantitative skills.
- Excellent computer skills and familiarity with statistical packages (R, Stata, SPSS, or SAS).
- Solid understanding of research and statistical methods, and data ethics.
- Strong analytical skills with attention to detail and accuracy.
- Evidence of publication in an indexed peer-reviewed health journal within the past 3 years.
- Excellent communication (written and spoken) and interpersonal skills.
Terms of Appointment:
