Lecturer – History

University: Umma University

Location: Kajiado, Kenya

Umma University, based in Kajiado, is seeking qualified and dynamic academic professionals to join its School of Education. The university is looking for a Lecturer with expertise in History. If you have a Ph.D. or equivalent degree qualification in History, are registered with the relevant professional body, or hold a master’s degree with at least three years of teaching experience at the university level, you are encouraged to apply.

Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. or equivalent degree qualification in History from an accredited and recognized university.
  • Registered with the relevant professional body. OR
  • A master’s degree in History from an accredited and recognized university.
  • At least three years of teaching experience at the university level or research or industry.
  • A minimum of three publication points, with at least three from referred journal papers.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Must have at least two areas of specialization or able to teach at least two different subjects.
  2. Ensure that teaching is informed by contemporary research in the relevant field and develops students’ ability to engage in debate, critical discourse, and rational thinking.
  3. Provide high-quality academic guidance and advice to enhance students’ learning experience and employability.
  4. Reflect critically on teaching responsibilities, implement improvements, disseminate good practice, and contribute to quality monitoring and enhancement.
  5. Work effectively as a team member, chair committees, and contribute to professional development.
  6. Deliver lectures, seminars, and tutorials.
  7. Design, prepare, and develop courses, modules, and teaching materials.
  8. Develop and implement new teaching methods to reflect changes in research.
  9. Assess students’ coursework, set, mark, and moderate examinations and assessments.
  10. Supervise students’ research activities, including final year undergraduate and Masters projects.
  11. Contribute to professional conferences and seminars in your field of expertise.
  12. Deliver live online sessions to support student learning and develop online learning resources.
  13. Any other duties as assigned by your supervisor.
